Sun Versus Drizzle

Taking the family on a holiday is something most of us like to do.  It’s doesn’t have to cost the earth.

The perfect family holiday doesn’t have to be an expensive affair.

In fact it is completely possible to enjoy a week away with some guaranteed sunshine, soft warm sand beneath your toes and sparkling seas for the same sort of price that it would cost to stay UK-side for a week. Obviously, some flights cost more than petrol in a car – well almost! – but if you can stick to a budget for the purpose of whisking your loved ones away, you may be pleasantly surprised at how far that can stretch.

Let’s look at the destinations first.

As family breaks go, Lanzarote holidays are a superb choice for all ages and walks of life. So, start by searching the tour operators’ websites for Lanzarote holidays and scour the results to weigh up the prices. Now decide when you are going. If it is in term time you will almost always see a jump in prices, but if your children are not of school age then try to avoid booking while the schools are shut – this could save you a small fortune. Once you have typed in your dates, try adjusting them by a day or two to see if it makes any difference in price. Sometimes by flying out a day earlier or at a different check in time, it can save you a fair amount per person.

Looking at your accommodation, self catering might seem like the obvious budget price – but try other options too, like B&B and even half or full board. If you have hungry little travellers with you it may be financially beneficial to stay all inclusive, as this typically means that all of your hotel meals, snacks and drinks are included in the price. Surprisingly it is not always that much more than a self catering apartment. Whatever you choose, just think what a refreshing change it will make from a drizzly B&B on our chilly shores.
